Frequently Asked Questions

+ Are the courses available to both females and males?

Hypoxi is by no means gender orientated it is suitable for females and males. Our therapists will be happy to arrange your appointment to respect your desire for discretion and privacy.

+ How do I commence a course of Hypoxi training?

You are invited to come for a free consultation to enable our therapist to assess your requirements and for you to have a trial session on the Hypoxitrainer.  This gives you the opportunity to learn more about our unique systems and the benefits available.

+ What happens during a training session?

After the initial Hypoxi consultation you are fitted with a neoprene ‘skirt’ which provides an airtight seal around the top of the machine. You then step in and onto an exercise bicycle. The seat is adjusted electronically to suit your own height, the skirt forms a seal around your waist to create the vacuum environment and you then GENTLY pedal for 30 minutes.  During this time you have the benefit of watching a DVD on the flat screen TV.

The vacunaut system consists of an advanced ‘drysuit’ which when worn and operational alternates low and high pressure around your waist and lower back.  After your consultation you can decide whether you wish to wear under the ‘drysuit’ your own loose clothing, thin tee shirt and shorts/pyjama bottoms or if you wish to purchase your own personal undersuit (£25).  The suits ensure immaculate hygiene and assist in improving the effectiveness of the treatment. A session lasts 40 minutes and incorporates GENTLE walking on a treadmill again with the benefit of your favourite DVD recordings.

+ How often do I have to come for training?

Courses vary in length with 12 being the minimum. It is recommended that sessions are 3 per week on alternate days.

+ What are the results?

We expect clients to see a fat loss equivalent to either one dress or trouser size every 4 – 6 weeks.  Ladies can also expect a reduction in cellulite from the buttocks and thighs.

+ Are there any side effects?

The treatments are obviously safer than invasive surgery and reportedly preferable to passive treatments without muscle activity.

+ Do you need to be fit for Hypoxi Training?

The vacuum chamber ensures that your heartbeat is constantly monitored.  This means that training can be carried out at a very low heart rate, if necessary.  Training does not require any particular degree of physical fitness.

+ Are all people suitable for Hypoxi Training?

You must not be suffering from any major illness, infection or inflammation.  Also pregnancy, those under the influence of drugs and those at the risk of thrombosis are contra-indicated.

+ What are the nutritional guidelines?

We advise that you consume a healthy, balanced nutritious diet and that you drink plenty of water.  We are happy to give advice with regards to this if required.  On your Hypoxi training day it is essential to have a good choice of complex carbohydrates 2 – 4 hours before training. For example wholegrain cereal, porridge, wholemeal pasta etc or even a banana or cereal bar 1 hour before a session.  It is important after training that no carbs are eaten for the next 6 – 8 hours to allow the treatment to continue working even after you have finished.  Lean protein, for example chicken turkey fish or leafy steamed vegetables are advised.

+ What should I wear for training?

For Hypoxi long loose trousers for example track suit bottoms and a regular tee shirt or training top and trainers.

For Vacunaut it is important that the ‘drysuits’ are not punctured or obviously the vacuum will be broken. We therefore suggest you wear the purpose made undersuit or a pair of cycle shorts and short sleeved tee shirt.  If you feel it necessary to wear a bra could we please ask that this is either a sports bra or one from which the underwires have been removed.  Socks and Trainers are also advised.

+ What times are you open?

We aim to open 7 days per week at a time convenient to you.  We are always happy to accommodate your own individual requirements.
